The world hands you some lucky breaks and some really crappy deals.  Life does that.

There once was a generation who were handed an environmental disaster, an economic depression and then a world war.

They had to be tough.

They lost their land and went on the road looking for work.  They lost their savings, their jobs, their houses.  Some lost hope.  Some lost their loved ones.  Some gave their lives.

When the going got tough, that generation got going.

Tough times don’t last, tough people do.

If you’ve ever been curious about that generation of people, some films and documentaries will tell you just how tough it was and what those people did when the going got tough.

  1. You know Astro G, my father told me how rough his mother had things . . immigrating from Poland with a husband who was (or became) abusive and with five kids to raise in Manitoba during the depression.

She used to water down the milk so much that my dad had Rickets . . and yet, 3 of my uncles became doctors and my Dad an engineer / environmentalist. My father was the eldest son and he told me that when he was a kid, he saw men collapsed in the front yard, homeless, broke and my grandma would just “water down the soup” and feed as many as she could. (Guess she watered down a lot of things to feed everyone).

The toughest I’ve ever been was during a trip to Florida: Life Changing Quotes and yet it was those much older and younger than me that amazed me with their generosity and protectiveness.
